Local History
The area is steeped in history, with a wealth of historic buildings and
sites.
Whiteholme "gin shed", is short for engine shed, where working horses would walk round in a circle to drive the threshing machine to mill home-grown oats.
Lanercost Priory is an Augustine priory dating back to 1166.

Hadrian's Wall crosses the landscape from Carlisle to Newcastle, with Birdoswald, Cawfields, Chesters and Housesteads forts along its length.
Bewcastle Church is the home to the remains of a beautiful Celtic Cross.
Horse Riding

Horse and pony riding lessons, hacks and traps are available, for both adults
and children, by prior arrangement with Shawstown Farm, nearby.
Residential visitors are welcome to stay with their own horses.
Walking

A public footpath runs across Low Luckens farmyard and along the banks of the River Lyne. A new permissible footpath takes walkers around the boundary of Whiteholme Farm.
For those wishing to walk further afield, there is Lake District, Hadrian's Wall, North Pennines and Cheviots all within driving distance
Cycling

The area around the centre is ideal for cyclists, with a maze of quiet country
roads. The Reivers Cycle Way passes close to the farm.
